Kauai United Way Kicks Off its 66th Annual Campaign »»

The 2009 Kauai United Way Annual Campaign kicked off in style at the Ballroom of the Grand Hyatt Kauai in Poipu on August 13th. Mayor Bernard Carvalho welcomed guests and 2009 Campaign Co-Chairs Doug Sears and Ron Wiley emphasized the importance for those who gave last year to give a little more this year as well as for those who didn?t give last year to get involved.

With the economy recovering slowly, social service needs are greater than ever this year because so many Kauai citizens are unemployed or underemployed. The strain on social service providers is extreme right now, and will remain so until full employment returns.

The 2008 Campaign exceeded its goal of $610,000. In recognition of the greater need resulting from the economic crisis, the 2009 Campaign leadership decided to raise this year?s goal to $615,000. ?We can do it, I know we can,? said Campaign Co-Chair Ron Wiley. ?In fact, we have to.?
